A putative CtsR binding site was identified upstream of the clpC gene. CtsR was used in gel retardation assays with DNA fragment corresponding to clpC promoter region and two specific protein-DNA complexes were revealed. Dnase I footprinting assays indicated that on the non-template strand CtsR protected region exteded from -58 to -37 at low concentrations and from -58 to -29 at high concentrations of the protein. On the template strand the protected region was from -63 to -39 at low concentrations and from -63 to -27 at high concentrations relatively to translational start site.
